Four Beautiful Scenes for a Special Edition
Of Elegant Spode Dinner Plates in
Cranberry
Red or Blue
The
perfect gift for
family and friends
who love Mt. Monadnock
and Jaffrey!
The
Jaffrey
Center
Village
Improvement
Society
(JCVIS),
in celebration
of its 2006
centennial,
arranged
with Spode
of England
to create
a unique
set of fine
china dinner
plates featuring
engravings
of four
historic
scenes of
Mt. Monadnock
and Jaffrey
Center.
The “Mt.
Monadnock
and Jaffrey” series
is a limited
edition
of 250 sets
of 4 plates
in cranberry
red or blue
of the 10-3/8” slightly
scalloped,
round Georgian
series of
dinner plates,
with a floral
border,
which Spode
first produced
circa 1812.
The plates,
made in
England,
are safe
for dishwashers
and microwave
ovens.
The 4 scenes
all feature
Mt. Monadnock
in the background.
They include
the Meetinghouse
and the
Horsesheds,
a pastoral
view across
the Swale,
Melville
Academy,
and a horse
and buggy
on Main
Street at
Harkness
Road and
Bryant Road,
where the
JCVIS dedicated
Centennial
Park in
July 2006.
These scenes
represent
the 16 acres
of open
spaces and
public buildings
maintained
by the JCVIS
for the
benefit
of all.

Three scenes are
based on historic
photos of Jaffrey
Center from the
1890s, a few years
before the JCVIS
was founded. The
fourth scene is
a view, unchanged
since 1833, of
Melville Academy.
It was painted
recently by Jaffrey
artist Howard
Hill. The four
scenes have been
reinterpreted
in a 19th century
engraving style
by Concord artist
R.P. Hale. The
back of each plate
has a description
of the scene and
historical notes.
The sets of four plates come
in an attractive blue Spode
box and make handsome gifts.
